The Apollo 13 story remains powerful even now, 56 years later — arguably second only to Apollo 11 in the minds and memories of millions around the world who remain fascinated by the Apollo moon missions. And yet this mission, to land on the moon, was doomed by a catastrophic explosion 200,000 miles from Earth. Why have some called this failed mission NASA’s greatest hour? What happened, and what is the continuing legacy of Apollo 13? The presenter, Brian Alm, was the senior officer for engineering operations in the recovery of Apollo 13, aboard USS Iwo Jima. This talk will complete the story — known only to those who were there — about what was going on in the South Pacific to save Apollo 13.
