An introduction to ancient Egypt, covering the formative concepts and ideas of that culture and their expressions in art, architecture, sculpture, funerary literature, religion and mythology, plus travel tips for those planning a visit. NEW for CommUniversity this time! — we’ll look at some original hieroglyphic texts to learn something about the ancient Egyptian language, and we’ll also dig into some mysteries that add even more wonder to this most profound, most intriguing ancient culture. The instructor is a member of the American Research Center in Egypt and the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures at the University of Chicago.
