ClassGraphic Instructor: Dr. Annette LeZotte, Black Hawk College, art historian

Northern Europe saw unprecedented growth and prosperity during the 17th century leading historians to refer to the period as “The Golden Age.”  The establishment of the Dutch East India Company in 1602 resulted in the development of a robust merchant class eager to fill their homes with artworks symbolizing their newfound wealth. This class will explore how painters embraced both new opportunities and new challenges during this era. Painters we will study include Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and many others.
