ClassGraphic Instructor: Fr. Panayiotis (Peter) Hasiakos, Assumption Greek Orthodox Church

This course will offer a seminar format reading and discussion of edifying texts from three renowned fourth-century saints: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, and John Chrysostom. Readings will include Chrysostom’s letters to Olympia on combating despondency, Basil’s homilies on combating anger and inattentiveness, and selections from Gregory’s Poems on Scripture. The course will aim to generate meaningful discussion and reflection on these texts, which on the one hand give us a glimpse into the personality of the authors, and on the other will provide us insight about ourselves and about the Christian faith.
